Nasal epithelial cells form the outermost protective layer against environmental factors. They clean, humidify, and warm inhaled air. They produces mucus, which binds particles that are subsequently transported to the pharynx by cilia on the epithelial cells. It has been shown that epithelial cells not only defend physically, but also respond by the production of inflammatory mediators that may affect local immune responses. They are used as an in vitro model for studying nasal defence mechanism. This cell line may contain some fibroblast-like cells, therefore exhibiting mixed morphology.Recommend using Accutase to subculture the cells. This cell line is highly sensitive to trypsin.
