The Immortalized Human Hepatic Stellate Cell Line (LSC-1) represents a novel advancement in the field of liver disease research, particularly in the study of liver fibrosis. Unique for its derivation from human liver tissue and immortalization using specific genetic modifications, LSC-1 exhibits key characteristics of activated hepatic stellate cells, including upregulated fibrogenic gene expression and increased matrix and adhesion protein levels. This cell line reverts to a quiescent-like phenotype under certain 3D culture conditions, highlighting its versatility for studying the dynamic nature of hepatic stellate cells in fibrosis. Its application in various three-dimensional co-culture systems with HepaRG cells has demonstrated significant potential for investigating liver fibrosis mechanisms, drug discovery, and the development of antifibrotic therapies, providing a valuable tool for both basic and applied research in liver disease.
