This cell line is developed from human pancreatic mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) that have been immortalized using the Simian Virus 40 (SV40) large T antigen. This immortalization allows the cells to proliferate indefinitely while maintaining many of the characteristics of primary mesenchymal stem cells, such as the ability to differentiate into various cell types and support pancreatic tissue regeneration and repair. These cells are invaluable for research into pancreatic diseases, including diabetes and pancreatic cancer, as they provide a consistent and renewable resource for studying the mechanisms of disease progression, tissue engineering, and the regenerative potential of MSCs in therapeutic applications. Additionally, their use can extend to drug discovery and toxicity testing, providing insights into how treatments might affect pancreatic function and MSC behavior.
