The pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (PMEC) are isolated from human pulmonary arteries. The PMECs form a semiselective barrier that is critical for lung gas exchange and regulation of fluid and solute passage between the blood and interstitial compartments in the lung. HPAEC have been used for the study of vascular permeability and inflammatory responses. HPAEC in co-culture with HPASMC have been used as a model for pulmonary angiopathy. Real Time PCR was used to quantify transgene expression.
