Immortalized mesenchymal stromal cells (iMSC) were established by transducing primary cells – derived from aged donors – via spinoculation with hTERT and SV40LT. Expression of both hTERT and SV40LT within the immortalized cells was confirmed through qPCR.These cells maintain MSC characteristics and show high proliferation rates. iMSCs display osteogenic potential similar to primary MSCs, however, their chondrogenic potential is generally poor. These cells are suitable for forming in vitro tissue engineering models for bone disease and regeneration studies.
