The olfactory bulb is located within the vertebrate forebrain, in which it functions to receive nerve endings/input from the nasal cavity. The sense of smell is associated with the nerve tissues of the olfactory bulb.Immortalized Mouse Olfactory Bulb Cells (OBC1) is immortalized with non-replicating retrovirus carrying the avian Myc gene. The cells exhibit NF (neurofilament) and GalC (a marker for oligodendroglial lineage) markers. OBC1 cells have been shown to form tumors in animal models, hence has the ability to be tumorigenic. It is a valuable in vitro tool for studies relating to the functions and the biology of the olfactory bulb. The cells express resistance to 0.3 mg/ml G418 (Cat. No. G271).
