Popis

This novel, stable plasma cell leukemia cell line (UHKT-944) represents a significant milestone in the study of plasma cell leukemia (PCL). These cells are dependent on exogenous IL-6 for growth. Cell morphology was confirmed through Giemsa staining. UKHT-344 cells express CD138 and CD38 and were negative for the tested B-cell, T-cell and myeloid markers. These cells produce IgA1-kappa without secreting free light chains, as found using nephlometry. IL-6 was found to be essential for both the survival and growth of this cell line. Cells also express weak levels of CD1a, CD9, CD45, CD54, and HLA-DR. This cell line is a suitable model for studies focusing on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of plasma cell leukemia pathogenesis.
