These Immortalized Human Osteoarthritis Cartilage Mesenchymal Stem Cells (OASC5) are a robust model for investigating osteoarthritis (OA) pathogenesis and developing therapeutric interventions for OA. Derived from human articular cartilage of osteoarthritis patients, these cells are immortalized to enhance longevity and stability. Thus enabling extensive experimental manipulation without the typical constraints of primary cell cultures. OASC5 cells display a unique stellate morphology, intermediate between chondrocytes and bone-marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells. The cells express MSC markers such as CD166, CD105, and CD90 under specific conditions, affirming their identity as mesenchymal stem cells and are capable of differentiating into chondrocytes, osteoblasts, and adipocytes, offering a versatile tool for studying various aspects of cell differentiation.
