Probasco cells were derived from a mixed breed dog that had spontaneous prostate cancer. Probasco cells were shown to metastasize to the appendicular and axial skeleton after injection into the left cardiac ventricle in mice and produce osteoblastic bone metastases. Cells have been transduced with a luciferase reporter which allows for monitoring of tumor growth using bioluminescent imaging. The Probasco cell line is a valuable model to investigate the mechanisms of prostate cancer pathogenesis and osteoblastic bone metastases.
