This BHK-21 cell line stably expresses the nucleocapsid (N) protein of the Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus (PRRSV). Utilizing a Sindbis virus-based expression system, these cells provide a robust platform for the study of PRRSV replication, protein interactions, and potential vaccine development. The expressed N protein localizes throughout the cytoplasm and specifically targets the nucleolus, facilitating studies on its role in viral replication and host interaction. This cell line is ideal for investigating the replication mechanisms of PRRSV, the role of the N protein in viral assembly, developing and testing new vaccine strategies against PRRSV by enabling the production of viral replicon particles (VRPs), and studying interactions between the PRRSV N protein and host cellular components, particularly within the nucleolus.
