This cell line features a mutant in the R2-box (a region within the ERE that is highly homologous to the R2 5′UTR) region of the R2 gene. Cells express very low levels of R2 transcript and protein resulting in slower growth compared to wild-type HepG2 cells. Since R2 regulates the HBV cell cycle, this cell line is suitable for studies regarding HBV infectin and pathogensis.Note: Keep cells at low passage.
