Leo cells were derived from a dog with spontaneous prostate cancer. Leo cells metastasize to the brain, spinal cord and to the appendicular and axial skeleton after injection into the left cardiac ventricle in mice. Cells have been transduced with a luciferase reporter which allows for monitoring of tumor growth using bioluminescent imaging. Leo cells are a valuable model to investigate the mechanisms of the brain and bone metastases.
